: I'm the white noise in the background of other people's conversations. When it's my turn to talk in a restaurant, the waitress asks if the others at the table need a refill. When I use the phone, I'm put on immediate hold. Sometimes when I *answer* the phone, I'm put on hold! I'm heard, but rarely listened to. People swat at me like I'm a giant mosquito.
